"Moolapalooza to feature nine local bands"

Where can one go on Saturday for a day full of free local rock music in a fun atmosphere?

The answer is Tarleton State University and the third annual Moolapalooza rock festival.  Moolapalooza will feture nine local bands and will run from 12:30 - 9:30 p.m. Saturday behind the Administration building on the Tarleton campus.  A special outdoor stage will be erected especially for the event, said Jon Young, event coordinator.

"We want to provide a local stage for up and coming local bands to showcase their talent and to promote unity in and among local bands and artists of Stephenville," Young said.  "It will also provide an exciting venue for the Youth of Stephenville to see live music acts without visiting a bar."

Moolapalooza is sponsored by Catch 23 Entertainment, Tarleton State University Student Activities, KTRL 100.7FM "The Planet", Cross Timbers Plumbing and ElkinsMedia.

The concert will kick off when Defectus takes the stage followed by SlapJaw, Monument, The Individuals, The Sub-Sonic Empire, Peer Xtinktion and the Steve-Dave's.

Glide, whose members include Jon Young, Ryan Lystad, Steve Elkins and Casey Wilson, will take the stage at 7:15 p.m.  Glide's sound is described as "an original mixture of punk, metal and alternative rock," according to Young.

Glide has enjoyed success in the Dallas area and has opened for mainstream acts Bowling for Soup and Alligator Dave.

"It's great to be back in the saddle again - we hope that we can leave a good impression on Stephenville," Young said.

The last band of the evening will be Affliction, "a unique combination of the aggressiveness of industrial rock with smooth melodies influenced by artists such as U2 and The Cure," according to band members, Ryan Lystad, Allen Pingleton and Adam Mercer.

"Stephenville is long overdue for an event like this," Young said.

"This will be a show unlike any that Stephenville has ever seen."
